Two things make rainy, gloomy days better. Candles and tea. On this gray day I turned to Den’s Tea Genmaicha Extra Green. I have been enjoying this tea for a quite a while and it is truly one of my favorites. My first taste of a Genmaicha was at a Japanese restaurant where my dad and I shared a pot of tea. The taste of that tea lingered in my mouth and I wanted to know what kind of tea it was since it was so unique. I finally found it after ordering the green tea sampler from Den’s tea. Inside that sampler was the tea I had been searching for. Now I don’t know if the restaurant uses that particular brand, but I am certain I was served a genmaicha.

From my understanding, genmaicha is not the most high end green tea but that doesn’t matter to me. I love it just the same. Genmaicha is a green tea with roasted brown rice added to it. This particular genmaicha adds matcha to the mix. It has a wonderful nutty green taste that is robust, never bitter, and savory. I honestly can’t get enough of this tea. This is one of the few teas that I order lots of because it has become a standard in my tea cabinet. In fact, I need to order more! I have tasted several genmaicha’s but this is the one I prefer. The taste is the strongest without bearing down upon my taste buds and becoming bitter. The brown rice never tastes burnt and the matcha gives it a lovely strong flavor. I indulge in this tea often and will continue to do so for a long time to come.
