I’m going to start by saying that this is not your typical green tea.  My first sip of it was a huge surprise to my taste buds.  Red Leaf’s site gives an indication that there are herbs used in this tea but I’m unsure of which ones.  The fragrance of the leaves smells like floral herbs.  I was intrigued as I have never smelled anything like it before in a tea.

I followed the brewing instructions of using 6oz of water that was 170 degrees for 3 minutes.  I poured the cup and thought the color of the liquid was a very pretty dark yellow green.  The smell coming from the cup was very similar to the dry leaves and I was anxious to take my first sip.  I was quite shocked when I did.  This tea is highly, highly herbal.  And I mean herbal as in an almost medicinal way not a tisane way.  I felt like I could have been inhaling incense while I was drinking this.  There was a tiny bit of green tea taste that was slightly astringent but it was mostly covered up by the herbs.

This tea just really threw me for a loop.  I am a huge fan of green teas.  In fact, green teas are probably my favorite.  But this again is not a typical green tea.  Red Leaf’s site says that their “herbs retain so much freshness and life that they are able to invigorate the worn out spirits of any modern city dweller or suburbanite” and I can tell you that they sure do invigorate my taste buds!  I can see someone drinking this who knows and understands the benefit of herbs.  I am not that type of person.  So while I don’t think this is a bad tea, it isn’t for me.  It is interesting none the less and my mouth is still trying to figure out what it just experienced.
