Tazo Awake
Name: Awake
Company: Tazo
Type: Black
Cost: $9.90 for 48 teabags

I needed to be awake today. I was at work until 9pm last night with only a 2 hour break and I got home exhausted. 8am to 9pm makes for a really long day. This morning I woke up groggy and was running late. But I can’t skip morning tea, no matter what! So I put hot water in my thermos, teabags in my purse, and headed to work. My tea of choice today is Awake from Tazo. It is described as “a perfectly balanced, bold and flavorful breakfast tea that satisfies and invigorates”. Perfect! Just what I needed.
I steeped the bags for only 3 minutes because black teas tend to be too strong for me if I steep them for a long time. After I pulled the teabags out I was surprised to see how dark the tea was. The color in my drinking cup was a dark but clear brown. The taste was a straightforward, strong black tea taste. Simple as that. Or perhaps my groggy state hindered me from being able to focus on much of anything. I drank a lot of this. Three teabags worth to be exact. My morning thermos is quite large and it was full of caffeine. I am feeling a little shaky and can detect a headache threatening to pounce which I’m sure has to do with the large amount of caffeine I have just consumed. Yet I do not feel more awake, just jittery.
This isn’t a bad tea, but not one I would reach for all the time. Towards the end of my thermos as the tea was cooling off, I noticed a distinct cardboard taste. I wasn’t overwhelmed with this black tea but it is good for a quick tea fix when needed I suppose. I can also tell that it has to potential to go very bitter if steeped for too long. At 3 minutes this was slightly too strong. I can’t imagine what it would be like at 4-5 minutes. But perhaps that would be just fine for other people.
